David started playing a brass instrument at the age of six in a Junior Salvation Army band.  A spell in a local brass band culminated in him playing the tenor horn in the National Youth Brass Band for five years.  National Service followed where he had the opportunity to play the French horn in the military band of the 13th/18th Royal Hussars. 

After completion of two years making music he joined a bank where he a had a very successful career spanning forty years before retiring as a Senior Manager in 1995 .

Over the years David has played in a number of orchestras before joining the Torbay Symphony in 2003. David considers that the TSO is one of the friendliest orchestras he has played in and enjoys the challenges that the orchestra is occasionally faced with under the baton of Richard Gonski.

David is married to Sandy and they have five children, 6 grandchildren and one great grandson.

Following retirement David moved to the South Hams, built his own house at Bigbury-on-Sea where he enjoys gardening, walking and swimming and socialising when he is not making music
