Evolution of the Orchestra - A Weekend Festival of Music Celebrating the Symphony Orchestra | 16 Nov 2019 to 17 Nov 2019 |
Over two days, beginning on Saturday morning and culminating on Sunday evening, we will explore how the symphony orchestra came into being, matured and developed and take some educated guesses at what the future holds. There are some real highlights - Veronika Shoot is the soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto no 27 in Bb Major on the Saturday, and on Sunday Harriet Mackenzie plays Sofia Gubaidulina's Offertorium. This is a unique opportunity to hear a great musical work of the 20th century played by a real virtuoso. Gubaidulina is recognised as one of the finest composers of her generation and of the 20th century. Her music has been played by the top orchestras - Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony to name but two. Offertorium was written for and premiered by Gideon Kremer and is an immense work spanning 40 minutes. It is intense, virtuosic, full of amazing colours and sounds and leaves one feeling totally enriched by the experience. We are offering Early Bird tickets at a discount - so do take advantage by booking online asap!
